Seido Karate was introduced in India in 1988 by Sensei R.S. Kanwar who received his training under Grandmaster Nakamura himself. Sensei Kanwar established the Arya Samaj Mandir Dojo at Greater Kailash, Part II, New Delhi, where he imparted training in the art for ten years to all types of students ranging from school children to the military and paramilitary forces.
In 1998 when Seido Karate and Sensei Kanwar parted ways, the responsibility for leading Seido in India fell upon Senpai Nagender Singh Gulliya and Senpai Hardeep Singh, two of the seniormost students who now have over 18 years of experience. Since then the new dojo management has been working hard to succeed for the true cause of promoting Seido in India.
In their efforts they have the full support of the international organization and the personal guidance of Kaicho Nakamura himself. The Indian dojos have the benefit of constant training and supervision from senior international members of the Seido Organization.
Towards this objective, Shihan Solly Said from Johannesburg Seido Karate, South Africa, visited India at the turn of the century which was followed by Grandmaster Tadashi Nakamura’s first visit to India in February 2001. Senpai Nagender and Senpai Hardeep have also visited South Africa to continue their learning.
Since then, the number of Seido dojos in India has grown to six. The G.K.II dojo currently has over 30 Black Belts and 100 regular students of diverse ages and abilities, learning the Seido spirit, technique, etiquette and philosophy.
